Ken Smith

Ken SmithAssociate Dean of Executive Education

Ken Smith is a professor of business and a strategy consultant. He has practiced as a strategy consultant for 25 years, beginning with McKinsey & Company and later with SECOR Consulting, where he has been Managing Partner and Chair of the Board. He has recently been appointed Associate Dean of Executive Education at the University of Guelph and continues consulting part-time. His client work and research interests are focused on business and public policy issues related to M&A and industry restructuring. In Canada, his work on bancassurance and financial services mergers is well known by industry and government leaders. In 2008, he helped draw attention to the issues that led to a federal review of Canadian competitiveness policy and made a major contribution to the review panel’s findings and recommendations. His work on value creation in M&A has been published extensively. He has also written on the systemic risk issues behind the US financial industry collapse and advised U.S. financial institutions. Mr. Smith is also active on a volunteer basis in the business and not‐for‐profit communities. He is the Chair of the Ontario Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors and is a member of the National Board of the Arthritis Society.
